Virtual 4TConference

Teachers Teaching Teachers Technology - Virtual 4T Conference
I "attended" this Virtual Conference in May - IT WAS AMAZING! You must sign up for it next year.  It was free, there were like 25ish different sessions to choose from. University of Michigan was the host and Liz Kolb was the director. All of the sessions were done using Elluminate, and they were recorded so you should be able to see them. pw = 4t2011

Who am I and why am I doing this?

I teach Business and Computer classes at the high school level in New Hampshire - year 13 starts in August. I came to education late, after working in restaurants and having my own bookkeeping business, among other endeavors. I love teaching technology and business classes.

I just started on my fourth course with PBS Teacherline. I like their format and I like the six week time frame.  I have taken the Capstone Introduction, Digital Storytelling, Teaching with Webquests, and now I'm in Publishing on the Web. I probably should have done them in a different order.

I think I am doing this blog mostly for myself - so I have a place to store all the cool stuff I learn about, and as a tool to use in the classroom. I have shared it with colleagues and students and gotten some good reviews.

Teaching with Webquests

I finished this PBS TL class in May and never got around to posting my final project.  So here it is...a Webquest for my Personal Finance Class - http://www.winnacunnet.org:81/lharris/pfwebquest/homepage.html

We used it for the final project/exam last trimester.  The kids did a good job with it and I will tweak it and use it again. The final project called for the students to create a VoiceThread presentation that discussed their personal financial plan.

Teaching with Webquests

I just started a new course online with PBS TL.  Teaching with Webquests.  I'm excited to learn about these and make my own.  This class runs form 3/30 to 5/10 - right in the middle of lax season!  I'll post samples of good Webquests as I find them for my colleagues.

VoiceThread in the classroom

Personal Finance class is using VoiceThread to create their final project - a personal financial plan. Hopefully I will have some samples of student work here soon.

Digital Storytelling course is over!

Good for me, my class is done, got an "A" moving on.  The next challenge will be to keep looking for new tech tools to use in the classroom - when I don't have to.  I'm going to share this blog with some of my colleagues so they can try out some of the cool tools that are out there for educators. If you click on the February link on the right, you can get to the tool posts. New class starts at the end of March - Teaching with Webquests.

Final Project for TECH 345.11

Ok - I've gotten past the Comcast fiasco. My project is done and handed in.  I plan on tweaking it later because it really isn't ready to show my administrators.  Here is the link - comment if you want, I can take it.

Comcast

Dear Comcast,

Why is it that my Internet connection decided to quit on me two hours before my final  project was due? Not nice Comcast. Boo to you Comcast.  So I will be in to see you today, with my old modem and I hope you have what you promised me last night - a new modem, a new router, and a note for my teacher.  The note was a nice touch, thank you for suggesting that. I will say that the person I talked to was fabulous and the language barrier was tolerable.
